Wife Saver French Toast

An easy, prep-ahead casserole made to “save” time. Layers of bread, eggs, cheese, and sometimes meat or fruit, baked together for a stress-free morning meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1/4 cup butter
  • 10 french bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups 1% low-fat milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Stir the brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter together in a saucepan over medium-high heat until bubbly. Pour into the prepared baking dish, then arrange the sliced French bread evenly over the syrup. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, flour, and salt until smooth. Pour over the French bread. Cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Stir together the white sugar and ground cinnamon; sprinkle over the french toast.
  3. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown on top, about 50 minutes.
